The museum and its exhibits are designed for students in the 4th grade and up. Some of the exhibits and theater presentations may be disturbing for younger children.
For adult groups wishing to tour the ALPM, the Springfield Convention and Visitors' Bureau is accepting requests at this time.
The Presidential Library is a public, non-circulating research library, specializing in Abraham Lincoln and all of Illinois history. Researchers should check in at the front desk for direction to appropriate departments. Collections include books, pamphlets, maps, and periodicals; photographs, films, tapes, and broadsides; manuscripts; and Illinois newspapers on microfilm. The library contains extensive resources on the Civil War and many publications useful for genealogical research, as well as the renowned Henry Horner Lincoln collection.
We are pleased to offer locations within the Library and Museum for business meetings, conferences, receptions, dinners and other events.
The mission of the Education Division is to provide educational opportunities for learners of all ages to explore Illinois and U.S. History and the legacy of Abraham Lincoln, through the museum and library collections. Students become historians with the ALPLM Classroom Connections Program, which offers structured research opportunities using primary documents from the Library collections. The program includes a self-guided tour of the Presidential Museum. With spectacular immersive environments, traditional exhibit galleries and high-tech special effects theaters, a visit to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum promises a memorable day for all visitors. But for a teacher with a large group of school children in tow, navigating through the museum, while providing a meaningful learning experience, can be a daunting endeavor. To help you prepare yourself and your students, the ALPLM Education Department has created teacher resource guides specifically for educators bringing a school group to the ALPLM.
Augie's Café offers a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, salads, soups, deserts and beverages in the Museum. Conveniently located across from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum is Union Square Park. Picnic tables are available on a first-come first-serve basis.
The Museum Store has thousands of items for sale. Among the more popular items are books, souvenirs, apparel, and toys. Like the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the Museum Store is a bridge between generations of Lincoln enthusiasts; and it is a place where every interested visitor will find something special to take home.
Parking is available in the Museum Parking Garage, located on the corner of Sixth and Madison Streets.
